Things to remember before starting.
Although the setup is straightforward, if using multiple devices simultaneously, it's advisable to first configure and test one device on several animals before connecting a second device. This approach ensures the system functions perfectly with one unit before adding another. Also refer to Note3 at the end of this document regarding TW series connection limitations.
What you need to get started
- 1 x Gallagher TW scale Head
- 1 x Automed Device with Battery
- 1 x Automed Adapter
Steps to complete before Connecting Scale
It's recommended to first connect and prime your adapter, ensuring it's prepared to dose immediately upon connecting your scale head.
How to prime an adapter already configured.
Connect the battery and attach the adapter to the device. Upon powering up, a screen displaying 'Start' will appear.
Continue pulling the trigger until the "Prime" menu option appears.
Once the "Prime" menu item appears, hold the trigger to activate the device's prime mode. In this mode, use the trigger to draw medication into the adapter, ensuring all air is expelled from the adapter and tube. Continue pulling the trigger until you're certain there's no more air in either the adapter or tube. After completion, disconnect the adapter and then reconnect it, preparing it for setup with your TW scale head.
How to prime a new adapter
Connect the battery and attach the adapter to the device. Upon powering up, a screen displaying 'configure' will appear.
If a different screen appears instead of the expected one, keep pulling the trigger until the "Configure" option is displayed. Then, hold the trigger until a beep is heard. Following this, the "Weight" menu item should be visible.
Pull the trigger once more until you hear a "Beep". After this, a screen will appear that enables you to set your weight-based dose rate.
On this screen, keep pulling the trigger to set the dose rate you need. After selecting the right value, hold down the trigger until the device beeps. If you make an error, just detach the adapter and begin the process anew. Once set, the device will then show the Start screen.
Setting up your TW Scale Head
Turn on the Gallagher TW Unit and choose the settings icon.
In the settings menu, select "Device Settings".
Next, choose "Wi-Fi." Within the Wi-Fi menu, you'll find an option to enable Hotspot. Click on "Enable Hotspot."
Turn on the AutoMed device. Once it's powered on, it will automatically locate and connect to the Gallagher TW scale head.
After the scale head connects, a message confirming its detection will be displayed.
When the device locates the TW unit, it will connect to it and display a message indicating successful connection to the Scale Head.
Once the scale head is connected, the "Start" menu item will appear on the device screen.
After the "Start" menu item appears, hold down the trigger to prepare the device for receiving the first weight. It's recommended to initially step onto the scale platform to test the device's connectivity with the scale head, ensuring it correctly receives the weight and sets the dose.
Once the scale head registers a stable weight, it will transmit this data to the device. The device then automatically calculates the appropriate dose, enabling you to administer the treatment to the animal.
Notes:
1. All devices are initially set to metric measurements by default. Remember to change the settings to imperial in the device menu if you intend to use pounds for weight measurement.
2. No mobile app or internet connection is needed for configuring and operating the scale and device. The setup guide is for Gallagher TW1, TW3, and TW5 scale heads.
3. Connectivity restriction of the Gallagher TW scale series, which allows only two devices to be connected at once, is inherent to the scales themselves and not a limitation of the Automed system.
